Tips to Keep Blood Pressure Under Check:

1. Watch your weight

  1. Blood pressure often increases as weight increases. Maintaining weight is one of the most effective lifestyle habits for controlling blood pressure. Being overweight can cause even more health problems, such as sleep apnea.

2. Exercise regularly

  1. Exercise helps keep elevated blood pressure from turning into high blood pressure (hypertension). Aerobic exercises that can help lower blood pressure include walking, jogging, cycling, swimming, or dancing.

3. Eat healthy

  1. Blood pressure can be lowered by a diet that is rich in fruits and vegetables. Further, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and low saturated fat and cholesterol are healthy diet options.

  2. Reducing sodium by eating fewer processed foods, not adding salt, and cooking food can improve heart health and reduce high blood pressure. Further, potassium in the diet through fruits and vegetables can lessen the effects of salt (sodium).

4. Quit smoking

  1. Smoking, as well as other drugs, can increase blood pressure. Stopping smoking helps lower blood pressure and reduce heart disease risk, thus improving overall health.

5. Get a good night's sleep

  1. Poor sleep quality and getting fewer than six hours every night for several weeks can contribute to hypertension. These tips can help you get a more restful sleep.

    1. Stick to a sleep schedule.

    2. Watch what you eat and drink.

    3. Small meals close to bedtime.

    4. Avoid caffeine and alcohol close to bedtime.

    5. Limit daytime naps.
